THE Anime of the Season: Jyu Oh Sei *flails*

At last! I've finally found something that rocks my socks off. Don't get me wrong - Ouran High School Host Club is hysterical and the other shounen-ai shows are full of prettiness...but I've been needing my *shounen* and my *action* and my *blood pumping excitment* that seemed to be just wholly lacking for a while now.

Not anymore though.

Jyu Oh Sei (Planet of the Beast King) is something of a cross between Battle Royale/Lord of the Flies and Planet of the Apes...except in this case, its not so much apes as...PLANTS. But, damnit - these plants are wickedy cool (the designs) and lethal at the same time.

Anyway, here's a bit about the first episode:

"Twin brothers, Thor and Rai, live on a space colony in the Balkan System; Thor wants to become a space shuttle pilot and visit the Earth, while Rai plans on being a scientist.
However, their dreams are dashed when they head home and discover their parents murdered; the brothers are gassed by mysterious security forces, put into stasis and then shot down to the surface of the planet below them."

(continue reading Bluwacky's first episdode runthrough)

The planet Chimera is overrun with plant life and humans stuck there are divided into 4 groups or "rings" based on the color of their skin. Its all about survival of the fittest, yet at the same time I can't help seeing similarities between Thor and Rai and Edward and Alphonse Elric from Fullmetal Alchemist.

I HAVE TO SAY THIS THOUGH: Despite all the prettiness in all the other shows - the character known as the Third is the Hawtness *wipes drool off laptop* Seriously, he is simply to *die* for - and this in a show isn't actually one about Pretty Boys.

Just shocking. If you want to see all the prettiness check out Garten's blog post that includes gorgeous screencaps...

*bounces up and down* I need icons damnit. *runs off to screencap first three episodes*
