Old Icons Post

It started about a year or two back. Whenever I got rid of userpics, I saved the icons on my computer just in case I wanted to reuse them them in future. Yesterday I discovered 3 different folders amounting to about 150 old icons. Some of the icons I'd used for ages, others were only uploaded for a day or two before they got the axe. Decided to pimp and post them out, including the icon maker of each :)

None of these are mine (unless they're credited to me, of course) Remember to credit the icon maker if find anything you love.

I'm sure there are more which are missing, including the Heath Ledger one I used when I first got my lj, but this is what I've got for now.

On the topic of concrit

Rambling and totally not organized...(yes, do ignore)

I was wondering about what y’all think about concrit – as a reader, or author or artist.

LJ feedback seems to consist primarily of short comments – even one-liners – that are all about the squee. Criticism doesn’t occur too often and usually if people don’t like something, the idea seems to be “don’t like, don’t read, don’t comment”

And then we have this idea of concrit. I don’t know why but that word seems to automatically include a drum roll and fanfare in my mind. Offering critique to improve a fic in such a way that the author is willing to take the comments into consideration. It's easy for people to deliver or take criticism the wrong way, where one party is misunderstood or feels slighted as a result. And my biggest issue personally is trying to figure out how much is objective criticism and how much is just your own personal opinion about the fanwork. What you might hate about a fic may be the exact reason other people adore it.

That brings me to another question. If a fic is a huge hit, does that make your criticisms of it any less valid?

Are we less willing to criticize stuff with a big fan following? And do you just not bother with even partial criticism because of lack of time or inability to word your opinions properly? Are you afraid that it would be misinterpreted by the author/artist and just discourage them from doing fanworks instead of actually helping them? Are you afraid of seeming too opinionated and unable to just celebrate in the fandom love?

There’s the idea that by posting publicly, authors and artists should be prepared to receive all kinds of feedback. But I wanted to know…if you do produce fanworks, do you like receiving critique or concrit? Or do you just wish people were more verbose and personal with their comments rather that leaving generic comments that could be applied to any other fanwork?

How do you give concrit? Do you tell the author what was off about their fic or the artist what was weird about their drawing? Do you tell them what you wish they had included? Do you point out the strengths of the fanwork so maybe they can focus on their strengths in future instead?

How does concrit work for you?

DeviantART Favorites Collections

Never is it more obvious that I'm a media whore than when it comes to DeviantART. And now I can prove it.

This past week I transfered hundreds of favorites to my new fandom DeviantART acount. I also organized them into folder collections for easy browsing. Gorgeous art from HP to pretty boys to hillarious memes/comics to macro photography to fantasy creatues (dragons, unicorns etc)...well, there are 20+ folders of art.

I've been using DevART for frickin' years, just running around and collecting shiny pictures. I admit I printed some art in the computer labs so I could put them up on my dorm room walls. And now its all so CLEAN and just, not a mess. VICTORY!

BTW, you might need to register/log in to see certain collections (like Disney Heroes in their underwear). Also, Firefox seems to work best for browsing folder collections of art...

Check out the super shiny pics!

Pimping and thinking...

[001] irrevokable's latest post is hillarious - it has a list of extracts from actual letters sent to govt councils/offices. Example: "I want to complain about the farmer across the road, every morning at 6:00 am his cock wakes me up and its now getting too much for me." Oh lord ^o^

[002] Yeah, I've wanted grown up HP fic for ages, even before book 7 came out XD

[003] maderr put up a FREE book on Lulu (Lilacs) and a second book up for voting on bookhabits (Dance with the Devil). Do check them out :)

[004] lastreads' bookclub is going to have a discussion on Artemis Fowl by Eoin Colfer from May 15th \o/ SO. PSYCHED. You need to join the community to get in on the awesomness but its definitely worth it.

[005] On the anime front, Kurenai and Toshokan Sensou both manage to put a smile on my face with each and every new episode. The interaction in the first show is so typical of siblings and the arguments in the second series are just hysterical XD It helps that the characters are incredibly cute too, lol

[006] When I read S. Morgenstern's 'Through the Looking Glass', the WTF-ness weirdness did NOT make me think of that Buffy episode where the slayer is in a mental ward. Instead it made me think of one particular scene in Stargate SG-1:

There are multiple interpretations of the fic possible IMO, and my head just understood it that way >__>

[007] Ok, need to write the final reviews for hd_worldcup and also catch up on comments (esp those on the anon meme thread ♥)

Elections have come to LiveJournal...

FYI - Links of note:
Livejournal plans to add two users to the Advisory Board (most likely via elections) and at least one more appointed member.

We can support as MANY nominations as we want by commenting on those self nomination posts BUT will only be able to vote for three in the official end of the month poll.

So far, I voted for legomymalfoy since she's the only person I'm familiar with at the moment - I think she's now an official nominee...

Does anyone know if there's been a community created where the official nominees can talk about their opinions and discuss issues? More than speeches, I really want to read some dialogue between candidates.

Honestly, I'm unlikely to vote if I've got little to no information about most of these people. It would be awesome to have some podchats to listen to, where they discuss their thoughts >__> Or a meme with questions about issues so we can read their responses...
